GLRA-Ethiopia launches a year Humanitarian Aid Project workshop

The Project entitled Lifesaving Humanitarian response through a multi-sectorial approach in Limu district, east Wollega zone of Oromia Regional State was launched on January 25, 2024 in Nekemte town of the zone.

The overall objective of launching this project workshop was to make different stakeholders familiar with the project and to know their roles and responsibilities; and create conducive environment for timely implementations of humanitarian project. The specific objectives of the familiarization workshop was to acquaint stakeholder and partners from respective government, NGOs, and community representatives with GLRA activities with specific reference to this humanitarian lifesaving project, to create conducive environment for the implementation of the Lifesaving humanitarian project activities, to establish networking and working relationship among the different stakeholders, to operationally define the role and responsibility of self-key stakeholders for smooth partnership and implementation of the program, to explain the scope of GLRA-Ethiopia humanitarian response project for the concerned stakeholders, to make mutual understanding and agreement on the project objectives with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.

A total of 35 participants (8 women and 27 men) were attended the familiarization workshop. The participants of the workshops include high officials and representative drawn from the Zonal Administration, Finance, Disaster Risk Management Office Representative, District Administration, elders /community members from Limu district, Zonal and District Health office heads and key experts, Head of health facilities i.e. Health centers at project intervention area, Program Head of Action for the  Needy in Ethiopia (ANE)  and their staff at local intervention areas as sub grants, Representative of Local UNOCHA Coordinator; Representative of WHO in the area; and UNICEF, NGO’s working in the area: Fayyaa Integrated development organization (FIDO); DORCAS, Family Health International (FHI), GLRA-East Africa Regional office and GLRA-Ethiopia staff, and Media outlet named Oromia broadcasting network Television (OBN-TV).

It has been noted that humanitarian crises are rising in many places throughout a world as people fight for their daily survival. Likewise, Ethiopia is facing significant humanitarian crises of internal displacement which has been conflict induced related to ethnic and border disputes.  In order to resolve these humanitarian crises, GLRA-Ethiopia has started its major Humanitarian aid interventions that were funded by Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund (EHF) monitored by UNOCHA. EHF granted GLRA-Ethiopia a total of $700,000 to support one year humanitarian assistances to alleviate the suffering of returned internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Limu district of east Wollega zone of Oromia. The project will mainly focus on improving access and coverage of quality lifesaving humanitarian response through multi-sectorial approach: Health, nutrition and multipurpose cash assistance. It was planned to benefit more than 53,776 people (>60% Female and children) in the district. The project will be implemented in collaboration with ANE as sub grants, Oromia Regional health bureau, zonal and district health offices, Health facilities and other partners working in the project area, and the wider target group communities. 

It was noted that the project life is one year.
